The ordination into the priesthood of our former students is a special celebration for St John’s College. This term, we’ve seen 2 Old Boys commit to this sacrament.
Fr Brendan Boyce was ordained as a member of the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter (FSSP) in July at St Benedict’s Church in Auckland. Bishop Emeritus Denis Browne was the celebrant, and in attendance were Frs Gerard Boyce (yes , that would be Brendan’s brother) and Fr Matthew Gibson. Old Boys will also remember Mr Ross Boyce, a Music teacher here for many years - Brendan and Gerard are his sons.
And a week later, Fr Isaac Fransen was ordained at the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Hamilton. He credits attendance at the World Catholic Youth Day 2008 in Sydney for sparking his journey to priesthood. He completed a BE(Mech) at Waikato University before joining the Holy Cross Seminary. He is now based at the Cathedral her in Hamilton. |
