A regular monthly or annual donation here is used by the Foundation to support today's students. Blue & Gold Supporters are making sure our young men don't miss out - through covering school charges for families in hardship or helping talented students with the extra costs associated with their chosen activity.

Rugby Scholarships

Growing Talent Within

Since it's inception, the Blue & Gold Club have committed to growing our rugby talent from within. It identifies talented Year 8s reluctant to come to St John's because of the costs involved. With the B&G Supporters covering Attendance Dues, and the College waiving donations and supplying uniforms, these young men are able to join the St John's community and a strong rugby programme to develop their skills and knowledge.

We're seeing this long-term support pay off in stronger rugby performances across all teams - and a high number of students playing rugby for the College. We are proud of our Johnnies Boys being selected to the Chiefs U18, NZ Schools Rugby, the Fiji squad, the Marist Colts, the WRFU Academy and many more. We are strong through the grades and our 1st XV is one of the top CNI teams in the competition.

We await our next All Black.

Akiva McBirney-Griffin

Akiva's talent opened up multiple opportunities , but also added to the financial pressure on his whānau to support his journey and dreams. The Blue & Gold Supporters contributed $1200 to assist Akiva to get to Australia and represent NZ.  Today (2021) Akiva is in his first year of College basketball at the University of California Irvine – living the dream and still working hard to be the best!
